Kotkhai is an important town of Shimla District It is situated in the South of river Giri Ganga The Nagar Panchayat has its operational area of 4 Sq Kms. Kotkhai town is 60 Kms away from the State Capital Shimla and situated at 1690 Mtr from main sea level. There is no town within the radius of 30Kms.

The main occupation of the Kotkhai is Horticulture More then 95% of the population in this area is involved in apple Growing.Being a high returned cash crop the per capita income of the area is much higher then other Tehsils in Himachal Pradesh Many Small and mid size industriws relating to Apple has cropped up surrounding to the Kotkhai Town installed by the State Government and private entrepreneurs
